Welcome
Welcome to PAINTING DURHAM, the website of artist Peter Hemming. Peter spent over 6 years on the beautiful Ionian island of Kefalonia and 3 years in the Auvergne region of France before returning to his native UK. Since moving to live in the north east of England Peter has been captivated by the historic city of Durham (which is now his home), and in particular the magnificent cathedral which sits majestically above, and in the meandering loop of the River Wear.
The Cathedral however, is only one of many glories of the city. The Castle too sits proudly aloft surveying the many historic walks and buildings below.
Peter's artwork - sketches, oil paintings and watercolours - is not restricted to Durham city though, as there is an abundance of amazing countryside in every direction, reachable on foot, or within easy driving distance, and, let us not forget, the coast is not so far away.
And to show that Peter's embraced the 21st century, you can now find 'Painting Durham' on Facebook.
